I didn't have sweet condensed milk on hand and made this anyway. Instead of 1/2 cup of sugar, I only used 1/3. It was sweet enough as is. Omitted celery and used lemon cucumbers. It turn out very good. Prehaps for a more creamier consistancy next time I will add the condensed milk.
You can rock the crockpot with this one! I use 7lb Pork Shoulder. Rubbed Hawaiian Black Lava Sea Salt (found at Sprouts Market) and 1.5 T of Mesquite Liquid Smoke. I added a teaspoon extra of salt because it wasn't salty enough. I also added cabbage when there was one hour left. Also added slice bananas on top of the meat -- but there wasn't any banana smell or taste in the meat, next time will wrapped it in banana leaves. I served this with sweet macaroni salad, mango salsa and sticky rice! I must say that the cabbage is a must because it brings texture to the dish. Absolutely delicious. The leftovers you can freeze or make whatever you want with it the next day!
This was very delicious! I didn't have maple syrup -- substitute honey and 1 T. of brown sugar. We put it in our Big Keg grill and it turned out sooo yummy.
