I wanted teriaki burgers, but didn't have teriaki marinade in the fridge. I made this, and it was fine as a basting sauce and topping. On it's own, it wasn't that good and seemed a little bitter, or off somehow like it was missing something. It might have needed more sugar to offset the ginger and garlic. The recipe was easy to follow, and took only a few minutes to bring it all together. It worked for the purpose I intended, but I won't make this one again. Thank you for sharing, as it worked fine, but I found a recipe that I liked much better.
These waffles were delicious. Very easy to make the batter, and I'm not sure why the heated milk, but I followed the directions regardless. I like this waffle. I thought I didn't like waffles, probably because I've only had pancake mix waffles or frozen waffles, and this was far superior in both taste and texture to both of those! The vanilla flavor came though and these reminded me of a dessert dish. Mine came out of the waffle maker crispy on the outside, but as they sat on the plates, they softened and lost that crisp by the time they went from pan to table. I don't know if that can be prevented. Frozen waffles don't do that and if I can prevent that softening, I'd like this even more. Honestly though, I much prefer savory to sweet, and I am still not a waffle person, but that said, these were tasty. I would make these again for company.
I used White Wings flour tortilla mix so it already had the salt and baking powder in it. Surprizingly, the bag only calls for the flour and add water, no fat. I followed this recipe and cut in the shortening and then added the hot water. This dough was beautiful and not sticky at all. It was so soft and easy to work with. I didn't use a cutter to divide these, I did it how I learned it in south Texas, you hold the dough ball in your hand and squeeze out a ball off the end making a sort of tunnel like a loose fist, and then pinch off a ball by closing the thumb end of your fist off. I don't know how to describe it, just the motion needed, and this is as close as I know how to say it. The woman that taught me didn't know the English word for the motion, she simply showed how. Mine aren't exactly equal sized, but then again neither is store bought. My favorite way to enjoy a flour tortilla is hot off the comal with a little butter and a sprinkle of salt. That is also what I will grab when I want a snack but don't want anything sweet or junk food. Flour tortilla and butter, yum. These turned out very soft and pliable. The recipe was simple to follow, and this made 8 tortillas. Were they nice and perfectly round? Of course not. Did I care? Of course not. These are homemade and have a good flavor. That's what matters. I'd use the self rising flour again as I always have it on hand for fry bread. If you don't have crisco, you can use butter, lard, or oil. It all works. I've seen it done all different ways in Texas and they all work. No need to buy special fat for this, use what you've got.
Great flavor on this easy thirty minute meal. This was made from pantry staples and I started the rice first, and everything was finished at the same time. I used Better than Boullion beef flavor with water to make a stock. I made a flour/water slurry because I didn't have cornstarch. It worked out fine. My husband did not want the fried egg on his. The gravy on this was tangy due to the worcestershire, and I did add the optional sugar. This was a nice filling dish and we both agreed we'd eat this again.
I used condensed milk and added some water to thin it out. I had some leftover shredded medium cheddar cheese and a couple of slices of gouda and tossed it all in along with a pat of butter and tasted and adjusted for salt. I always add a pinch of cayenne pepper along with a pinch of dry mustard powder, and this time was no exception. This made a rich, creamy, delicious bowl of mac and cheese. It made a lot of sauce and while at first it seemed like the macaroni was swimming in it, the pasta soaked a lot of it up as it stood, and it ended up being just right. Do use a good quality cheese as the flavor of this dish depends on the taste of the cheese.
I loved that green chili sauce. That made this dish. The green chili sauce had a little sweetness to it although there was no sugar at all. I think it was from the sweet onion I used. I had roasted Hatch peppers in my freezer that I grated up straight from the freezer, along with the onion, and I even grated the garlic. I baked my bacon in the oven and used the grease to fry those potatoes and eggs in. Leftover baked potatoes worked well for this. I simply chopped them up, even with the peels on. It all worked. I didn't fold it into a burrito as I prefer a breakfast taco. This entire dish took 35 minutes from start to plating up. I'd definitely fix this again.
