This was awesome! My son won't eat anything that has vegetables visible in it, and I also didn't have any tomato sauce on hand, so I made do with a small jar of red sofrito instead of the tomatoes and it was perfect! I thought it wasn't spicy enough and a little too sweet, so I added a pinch more salt and some crushed red pepper and cayenne. Definitely on our fave list!
We skimped a little and used imitation crab/lobster meat, and aged Swiss cheese instead of Gruyere. Still turned out awesome. My son said it was heaven in his mouth and better than Carabba's lobster mac and cheese.
Got inspired. Made mini strombolis, some with sauce, pepperoni, salami, and mozzarella, and some with sauce, pepperoni, salami, steak, peppers, onions, mozzarella, and jalapeños. Best I've ever had!!!
