Not for the novice! I would give this a difficulty rating of 7.5 or higher. It definitely takes some time out of your day to make. I'm fairly competent in the kitchen and still found this one to be some work. Perhaps if you are fortunate enough to own a stand mixer it would be a little easier. Unfortunately, I do not. I began the mixing process with a handheld mixer then transferred to my bread machine to let it beat up the dough for a while. It never did form a ball probably because of the small amount of moisture in the recipe. I turned it all out on to my surface and hand-kneaded it to the desired shape before letting it rise. From there out it pretty much all looked like the photos presented. I wish we could post more photos of the process as it goes along rather than just 1. Folks might like to see offerings from others making the recipe. Nevertheless, here was my finished Babka.... Very enjoyable!

Excellent! I followed the recipe but as always, I used my bread machine to make the dough. I took one to the neighbor and 5 minutes later they called and asked if I had more. I gave them half of my loaf. Enough said...

Made it similar to the recipe although this one screams to be made with whatever fillings you like. Like her tutorial, I used whole milk mozzarella and added a bit of provolone for some tang and stretchiness. No cheddar. I'm not sure why one would use cheddar in an Italian recipe like this one. I added spicy sausage and olives. I used the dough recipe as well and just mixed it on the dough setting in my bread machine. It turned out great! I made 2 like the recipe says and sent an un-baked one over to my neighbor. I hope they enjoy like I did...

Absolutely amazing sauce. I've made this twice and it turns out perfect every time. No deviations but I'd love to toss in a few baby bellas some time just cuz I like mushrooms! If anyone gave this less than 5 stars they just didn't cook it properly. Simmer on low for the 90 minutes and stir every 10 or 15 minutes. Hats off to you John for this deliciousness!
