I’ve made this before. Haven’t used the bread topping though. I’m gonna try it today. I added garlic salt and pepper. Normally I would have put onions and red bell pepper, but, I was in a hurry today. Hopefully it’ll still be good.
I did reduce the servings (down to 10), but I swear I have enough for 50. Tho, I must admit I added more vegetables than the 10 servings called for. Ok more bacon too. But just a wee bit more liquid. I also added better than broth (chicken). My husband is on his second bowl. I really want another bowl but trying to watch how much I eat. Extremely good!!! Gonna have to take some for the gang at work though. Too much for 2 but way too good to waste!!!
I can never find venison so I used hamburger. I also add a couple cans of chilli beans in hot sauce. I only use half the beer (24 oz of beer actually tasted like beer). I also add green peppers if I have them. My husband loves it!!! I do to now that it doesn't taste like beer. Oh and I don't at water.
This is how I first made my beef stew. I have changed it here and there to suit my taste or for what I have available. I've read many reviews that have changed it so much that it's not the same recipe. That may be annoying to some, maybe even the author of the original recipe. But I for one love to try different ways of making recipes. So I like reading the reviews with the changes in case I see something to add that makes it taste better or go farther or cost less. No one is changing it on the original page. Just for their own particular liking. I always welcome remarks that will make my meals good.
By the way I've always loved this recipe it is quick, easy and very tasty.
I put the flour and my favorite seasoning in a Ziploc bag along with the meat and shook it up till meat was covered then added it to the sauteed onions and browned the meat. And used a large onion and fresh baby Bella mushrooms (I added the mushrooms about a half hr before the sour cream). Real easy and excellent.
