Delicious! I added the apple cider vinegar too, and 3 cups of homemade veggie broth.
I ended up with extra liquid, so I poured it into a cup and drank it as a yummy satisfying hot broth.
The greens were tender and yet al dente at 45 minutes.
I mixed collard greens with 2 kinds of swiss chard from our garden to come up with a pound of greens. The swiss chard worked also but had a milder flavor. Thanks for sharing this!
This was an astoundingly delicious soup
I sautéed the onions in plenty of butter then added some fresh garden green onions and garlic tops and celery and crushed garlic along with chopped sweet potatoes, white potatoes and then dried herb and spice blends with a hint of curry and morocco and pink Himalayan sea salt, because I didn’t have any chicken broth on hand
Added the pound of ham coarsely chopped, the pound of dried split peas, a fresh Bayleaf and 1/2 gallon water
wow it turned out great
Simmered about an hour 15
I’m thinking if you follow this recipe as closely as possible you will be very happy that you did!!
it’s a great recipe thanks Chef John
I made this according to directions and in the process of adding water to cover the veggies, I think I must have added too much water because it came out like a soup! So going with the flow, I removed the beef, which was incredibly tender and falling off the bones, cut it into bite-sized chunks, and tossed it back in the pot. After seasoning the broth with more salt, poultry seasoning and a bay leaf, 1/2 chopped canned jalapeno pepper, a dash of Worcestershire sauce and 1/4 C jam for sweetness, and it came out so delicious. It's a great bone broth with lots of garden veggies. Thank you!
I made Chef John's Crispy Carnitas yesterday, and I had a lovely pan full of juices left over, so I wanted to make rice with it. I measured the juices, and there was 1-1/4 cup, so I added 1 cup of filtered water to the pan, threw in the rice and popped it all in the oven at 350 to get it boiling. That took about 20 minutes, then I turned down the oven temp to 325 and cooked for a total of 30 minutes more (checking every 10 minutes). After the 30 minutes, it was beautiful and perfect, and so much better than the rice cooker. I'm eating a bowl of it now with the carnitas! Soooo good. Thank you!!
