I made this last Christmas and it was a hit! I grew tired of the standard cream of mushroom and fried onion green bean bake. This recipe really mixes things up and the sour cream adds a whole new dimension of flavor. Because we’re in Texas, I add diced jalapeño pepper and diced fresh garlic to the diced onion mixture and sauté for a few minutes...really brings out the good flavor without the harsh burn associated with the jalapeño.

I followed the recipe except as others noted I used all butter. I also added the garlic and Parmesan cheese since I made Parmesan meatballs and pasta. Excellent flavor!

I used several sweet onion slices, banana pepper and garlic in a purée added to the sauce to lighten it. Turned out great. I also added yellow and zucchini squash to the top.
