I made as directed. It started to curdle but once the butter melted it mostly thinned out, I put it through a sieve before it thickened. It has kind of a metallic taste. I’ll see how it is once it’s cooled and been in the fridge. I had to use up all these lemons I had made lemon cello so I decided to make lemon curd ..will give these little jars out for gifts.
I added sautéed spinach and instead of onions, I used ramps because I had some in the freezer. I had some angel hair pasta in the fridge. I added some Water as well. I used panko bread crumbs and seasoned bread crumbs mixed with melted butter for a crunchy topping. Will make this again, there's always plenty of leftover ham.
My rye bread never turns out, it’s always 3” high and solid as a rock... but this was fabulous! I did add 1/4 cup of gluten. However.. I always add gluten to my bread machine recipes, they just aren’t light and fluffy if I don’t. I also used King Arthur Flour. So excited I found a recipe that works!!!!
I made this exactly as listed, threw in a bay leaf and omitted the thyme, as it was under two feet of snow today! Added potatoes and some additional carrots the last hour of cooking... ( I hate super mushy veggies )
then thickened the gravy with some flour and water when it was done.. awesome.. got rave reviews..
