Delightful! I skipped chilling for an hour due to time constraints but it was not an issue - cookies did not spread baked on a rack lined with parchment in my convection oven. I followed the recipe exactly otherwise and the spices are perfect - a touch of kick from the black & cayenne pepper and the bites of candied ginger are divine! 14 minutes was perfect for crispy edges & soft middles. Adding this to my permanent Christmas cookie file!
This tastes just like the red cabbage at my favorite German restaurant. I'm thrilled that I can so easily make it at home. I cut back the salt to about 1 1/2 tsp. because my cabbage was small, but otherwise didn't make any changes. I cooked mine in the Instant Pot for about 15 minutes and let the steam release naturally and it was perfectly tender and the apple had melted in.
Easy to make and delicious flavor! I had Meyer and regular lemons so I used half the juice & zest from each. I think both the crust and the bars in general could go a few minutes less in my oven as my lemon layer browned a little on top and my crust got a little stuck and over-hardened in the corners. So keep an eye on yours the first time you make it and adjust the timing to your oven.
Perfect! A nice crispy waffle with a soft fluffy interior. Delicious with butter & syrup but would also be good with chicken or a burger. I only had rapid rise yeast so that’s what I used (you just skip the proofing step and mix it in with the dry ingredients) but otherwise I followed the recipe exactly. I really love that you do most of the work the night before, perfect for a lazy Sunday breakfast!
I splurged on the gruyere and it was definitely worth it for our Christmas dinner. It's a delicate, creamy flavor and absolutely delicious. Made as written except I used russet potatoes and only boiled them about 5 min so they wouldn't fall apart. I will definitely make it again with gruyere for special occasions and maybe try gouda or play with various cheeses for an everyday side.
It was an easy, tasty loaf and only took a few hours! This was my first attempt at making bread outside a bread machine. I started it at the same time as dinner and it was done before the soup was. The only change I made (besides a last minute sprinkle of sesame seeds that didn't stick) was to place the loaf on parchment and use that to lower it into my Dutch oven that I preheated for about half an hour (I saw it on numerous YouTube videos). I'll be making this often!
