After reading all the suggestions about adding taco seasoning, I did just that. I used 1/2 the taco seasoning from the recipe of Allrecipes Ground Beef with Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix. I omitted the black olives, green onions and fresh tomatoes. I did not have chilli beans, so I used a 16 oz can of refried beans instead. I didn't have sour cream either, so I used 3/4 brick of cream cheese. I baked it for about 20 minutes and it was done. I used pieces of taco shell on the bottom and you really can't taste it, so I won't use anything next time. With the tweaks, it was awesome!
Why do people give high ratings AFTER changing the recipe? I wish people would just make the recipe as is and THEN rate it. That being said, it wasn't bad, but it is not your good old-fashion American apple pie. I thought it was weird that there was no cinnamon or nutmeg in the recipe. It was very buttery and reminded me of butterscotch. I might try it again but adding these spices to the mix. I used 5 Gala apples and added a 1.5 tsp of vanilla, it was not watery. Someone suggested brushing egg whites on the bottom of the crust to avoid a soggy crust.
Smelled great while it was cooking, but it's very bland when I followed the recipe. Second time around, I had to double the ingredients and add extra spices like parsley, onion powder, and garlic and herb seasoning in order to taste good. I really didn't taste the cheese because it burns very easily. I might have to add more just before serving? I used (2) 1.5 lb bags of baby red potatoes, which I cut in half. I only left it in for 15 minutes one side and then 5 minutes the other side.
I changed it up a little to suit my taste. I used 2 cans of tuna. 1/3 cup of mayo. 1/4 c of sweet relish. 2 tbl of minced onions. 1 celery stalk or 1/2 c of minced green pepper. 1 tb of lemon juice. 1/2 tb of dried parsley. 1/2 tsp of garlic powder. 1/2 tsp of salt. 1/4 tsp of black pepper. Yum!
This was quick and super easy! I didn't have any celery salt on hand, so I used dillweed. I used 3 thick chicken breasts cut into 10 pieces. My gus love hot food and 1 tsp of cayenne pepper was not enough. Next time, I will try 1.5 or maybe even 2. I left it in for about 20 minutes at 400 like some people suggested, but it was too dry. Next time I will set the oven at 375 as intended. Thighs will probably be juicier. Thanks
So delicious and super easy peasy to make! I used 4 egg yolks, 3/4 c. of lime juice and 1/4 c. of lemon juice so it can be nice and tart and 2 cans of sweetened condensed milk. I used a 6 oz graham cracker pie crust. Mixed all the ingredients very well and put it in the oven. I had to leave it in for 25 minutes. Next time if I use a bigger pie crust (with a 6 oz crust, the filling went all the way to the top) while the pie is baking, I'll make merigue and then put it on the pie the last 5 minutes. Sooooo good, my family loves it!
