Good as a base from which you craft something to your tastes. Sauté and add stuff like onion, peppers, tomatoes, cilantro, ham or sausage…whatever you like. Then crock pot it on low for 6 hours and you have something really hearty. Might want to use an immersion blender to coursely chop about 50% of it. If not customizing, it’s not worth the long slow cook effort and I’d just go with canned beans and a stove top recipe which can be just as good.
My go to brine . Results in juicy and tender pork chops. Watch the temperature not the time and shoot for 145 degrees. In my case, they hit 145 much sooner than the suggested cooking time. I found that using a few shakes of ground cloves spice works well versus actual cloves.
I made it. Sounded too good to be true but I went with all the good reviews. They were right. Simple recipe but very tasty. I added 1/4 tsp cayenne more and also let it marinade in the refrigerator for about 3 hours. Recipe saved to my favorites and I will make it again.
