This Icing is fantastic. I decorated 3 dozen Christmas cookies. It dries hard, and fast. I did use vanilla instead of almond extract. I did find it easier to mix the sugar into the milk and not the other way around. It's easier to control the thickness. When applied in a thick coat to cooled sugar cookies, this icing is bright and quite impressive. Really brightened up my cookie boxes.
Yum. I did increase the sugar by 1/2 cup, and add a bit of extra vanilla. Very good sugar cookies. I didn't find them bland, but I think they might have been without the extra sugar. Topped them with icing.
This was good, but I to change a few things due to a lack of ingredients. I didn't have any fresh basil on hand, so I used 1tsp of dry basil leaves in the sauce, and another 1/2tsp in the breading mixture. No eggs either, but I had some sour cream, so I watered it down a bit and used that to dip the chicken in before breading. Worked really well, as my breading stuck to the chicken even after I mixed it in the sauce. Dirties a lot of pans, but fairly easy to make. and I like the little bit of kick from the red pepper flakes. I really want to try this again with the fresh basil, I'm sure it makes this pasta even better.
The mushroom gravy was great. The only change I made was using fresh mushrooms instead of the canned. I thought the patties could have had a bit more flavor. Next time I'll add a bit of garlic to the ground beef mixture. Really easy to make, made a great weeknight dinner with mashed potatoes and peas. Update: Made this a second time, again with fresh mushrooms. I added a large clove of minced garlic, extra onion and cracker crumbs to the beef patties. Allowed the mushrooms to cookin in the butter for about 5 minutes to soften them up more, and added a bit of cornstarch to the gravy to thicken it up a bit. Really perfect cold weather comfort food.
