Yum! I changed out water for beef stock in the slurry but otherwise followed instructions. Used good quality soy sauce. Served over rice. I was sad there wasn’t anything left over.☹️
If I can stuff the uncooked shells and just bake covered with foil for double the time, I’ll give it five stars. It was messy and ineffective using a ziplock baggy with the corner clipped off. Added Italian seasoning, garlic powder and onion powder as someone else suggested.
Followed the recipe EXCEPT used unsweetened applesauce for half of the oil and 1 cup of brown sugar and the other cup granulated sugar. Oh, also used 3 cups of lightly packed zucchini. Added toasted chopped walnuts to one loaf and chocolate chips to the other. Scrumptious! Crispy on top, moist and tender on the inside.
Yummmmm! Got a little carried away with the cayenne according to my husband, but otherwise we both loved it. No more canned sauce for me. Had 1 lb of hamburger so adjusted quantities on the fly, which resulted in it being sloppier but still with great flavor.
I made the changes suggested by mummacita, adding dry onion soup mix to the sauerkraut and using sharp cheddar instead of mozzarella. I used microwave Bob Evans garlic mashed potatoes and served with brown stoneground mustard on the side. It was very tasty and filling. It had a nice acidic bite to it to cut through the fatty aspect and was definitely not bland. I could see craving this...
