I’ve made this multiple times. My whole family likes it. I’ve made it with ground turkey, ground veal, ground pork, and ground beef. Each time it is delicious. There is so much flavor in the other ingredients that making it with a lower calorie meat is an easy way to make it lighter.
This the most boring cake I’ve ever had. Tastes like bland custard or similar to a crepe. Texture is like really thick pudding...kind of gummy. I can see how some pet would like it if it were the vehicle of delivery for something else. I might serve in morning with berries and maple syrup. If you still want to make it, definitely add more sugar and double the lime zest. It would also be improved by a couple cups of sweetened shredded coconut.
I've made this three times now. SO GOOD! It is easy to make but takes a long time. I made some changes to it when I made it last night and think it was even better! For the meat, I use 2 lbs of veal and 1 lb of Jimmy Dean sausage (original). Also, as a short cut, I baked it in a store bought puff pastry which worked really well. Definitely will make again.
