Turned out delicious. Everyone loved it, and wanted more of it. I will make it again. I may lower the amount of salt a little bit, but no one else seemed to notice. It's pretty, too, if you use yellow cheddar. Great recipe.
I omitted half a cup of sugar. It is still pretty sweet. Very fragrant. I used frozen berries, so the batter turned a little purple anyhow. No one minded. I couldn’t find the right bundt pan, so I used a 9” cake pan. No problem. I will make this again, maybe with mixed fruit.
Very happy not to have to rely on seasoned stuffing mix. This smells like Thanksgiving. I doubled the recipe so I can just reach for the jar next time.
The crust is much too sweet. If I ever made it again, I would use a third to a half of the sugar, especially since it contained vanilla extract, which lends the illusion of additional sweetness. I also used a pastry blender instead of grating the butter into the batter. The addition of egg yolks was a nice touch, making it taste richer.
Terrific breakfast meal! We had a house guest, and I needed something I could whip up in a hurry. It was easy to assemble and throw in the oven. Within an hour (had to cook the bacon first), we had a hot, satisfying meal.
I'm allergic to peppers and chilis, so I omitted the peppers from the recipe. It was just fine. Next time, I will increase the amount of bacon, and maybe throw in some sun-dried tomatoes and/or some steamed broccoli.
