I have made this twice using the original recipe.(using fresh spinach) The second time, last night, I added chicken. I cook the fresh spinach with the mushrooms. We love it!
I got this recipe from a magazine years ago, and it is the only gravy that comes out perfectly. The only change I make? I use three turkey drumsticks. So good!
I used 3/4 cup sugar in the filling and one of the reviewer's suggested 1/2 recipe for crumble. Added some cinnamon to the crumble too. It was AMAZING! People who don't eat rhubarb liked it!
I wasn't sure about this, but I had a very meaty ham bone I didn't want to go to waste. So, I used canned green beans instead of green pepper, chicken broth in the can (2) and cooked it overnight. It got really thick and amazing. I will definitely make this again and recommend it as well.
