Well, I did like the taste as cooked per the recipe. We topped with chopped cilantro but neither of us wanted the mayo sauce or hot sauce so we had it dry. Cutting the cob was difficult. I did use a very sharp knife. I tried the towel method someone mentioned in reviews but ended up with the part facing down getting all squished before it cut through and I ended up cutting right through the towel once it did. On the second cob I tried the standing upright method someone else mentioned with better luck, although one side broke off before going the whole length. It made such a mess. I may try again though because I liked it.
I have made this now several times and comes out perfect every time. I have seen some reviews mention trouble with corn starch. if you follow the direction to whisk the corn starch into the sugar, then add that mixture to the simmering fruit, a little at a time, it should not clump, and if you continue simmering long enough, it will turn clear. I have followed this same method with other fruit as well, with similar good results.
I had seen a recipe similar to this year's ago, but couldn't find it, so I was very happy to see this in Allrecipes. I love how pork chops come out using this method. I love the flavor of the rub. I have made it now 3 times, and experimented with other spices the second and third time.
