Dry and crumbly. I had to use almost an entire jar of Adams peanut butter plus an extra tablespoon butter to make them less sweet and crumbly. Wound up with a half sheet full of little eggs which I enrobed in tempered chocolate.
Awesome strawberry cake!
The only changes I made was to bake it in a half sheet pan and then cake assembly. I cut 3x 6" circles from the sheet pan and layered them with a cream cheese buttercream made with Italian meringue and also spread a thin layer of strawberry preserves on the bottom 2 layers. Then frosted the entire cake with the buttercream.
Great strawberry flavor and went well with the other added components. Thank you for a flavorful and reliable scratch strawberry cake recipe!
We found a tablespoon of salt to be over the top, but other than that, this was great! Oh, after sauteeing the onion and garlic in the bacon grease, I deglazed the pan with a splash of red wine vinegar. Will make again for sure, with less salt!
Yup, I made changes.
Instead of frying noodles, I cheated and bought a bag of crispy chow mein noodles.
To the onions and sprouts, I added sliced shallot, a few sliced mushrooms, thinly sliced celery, some sliced snow peas, and some sliced water chestnuts. Instead of sake, I used Sherry. Added dry mustard and garlic to the sauce.
Went over VERY well in our house. Will make again for sure!
Sorry, we didn't care for this. My 4 year old wouldn't even eat it, and when it comes to sweets she eats everything. This was like a cake with some cherries scattered across the top and a chewy, crispy caramel-like layer all around the edge that was kinda odd. If you try this, you'll want to at least double the cherries.
Move over roasted potatoes, because these are amazing! Crispy yet creamy in every bite and full of herb and garlicky goodness! I also sprinkled fresh chopped parsley just before serving. A winner in our house, all around.
