Meet Chicken Cobbler—The Cozy Fall Dinner That’s Even Easier Than Pot Pie

You'll return to this 9x13 meal week after week.

If your social media feed looks anything like ours (i.e. loaded with delicious recipes), we bet you’ve seen a chicken cobbler before. But if not, it’s our absolute pleasure to introduce you.

Chicken cobbler is a simple weeknight casserole with a comfort level through the roof. This chicken dish went viral on TikTok for both its ease and its crave-worthy flavor. “Not only does this taste better than a chicken pot pie, it’s way easier to make,” said recipe developer Nicole McLaughlin.

Now, there are dozens of ways to make chicken cobbler, but our way is just about as quick as it gets. Aside from a couple of mixing bowls, this belly-warming meal all takes place in a 9x13 pan. And don’t even get us started on the Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit crust (yes, you know the kind).

In the colder months ahead, this 5-star dish deserves a spot in the weekly rotation. According to McLaughlin, “Your family will devour it—you’ve gotta try this.”

What Is Chicken Cobbler?

Chicken cobbler is a hearty, homestyle casserole loaded with chicken and veggies and topped off with a fluffy biscuit-style crust. It’s the same concept as a fruit cobbler but with a chicken medley in place of a sweet fruit filling.

Typically, chicken cobbler has a flavorful sauce that coats the meat and veggies as it cooks, so when you pull it out of the oven, the center is still jiggly. That means even after the cobbler is fully cooked, the inside will be soft, creamy, and delightfully saucy. Paired with the texture of the crisp biscuit topping, it’s a bite of casserole bliss.

What makes this recipe different from the rest is the use of a specialty biscuit dough (Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit mix) for the baked topping. This fan-favorite mix has cheddar cheese and savory seasonings blended throughout, adding a kicked-up flavor to the buttery, golden crust.

How to Make TikTok Chicken Cobbler

Aside from chicken and biscuit mix, this recipe calls for cream of chicken soup and chicken broth to keep the filling extra moist, creamy, and flavorful. It also uses a frozen bag of mixed veggies to round out the dinner.

To make it, start by melting butter in your 9x13 baking dish, then add shredded chicken in a single layer. Top with the veggie medley while it’s still frozen. In a separate bowl, stir together the biscuit baking mix, the included seasoning packet, and the milk until combined. Spread the biscuit dough gently and evenly over the chicken and veggies, being careful not to stir.

Finally, whisk together the soup and stock in a second bowl until smooth, then pour over the biscuit dough. Send the loaded 9x13 pan into a 375-degree F oven for about 45 minutes or until the crust reaches a deep golden brown color. At this point, the center won’t be entirely set, but you only want it to be slightly jiggly. Finish it off with some fresh chopped parsley, and dig in.

One Allrecipes member noted, “I also sprinkled half a cup of sharp shredded cheese on top before putting the dish in the oven. We all had seconds!”

Reviewers love how simple and adaptable this chicken dinner is. Some nixed the peas and carrots based on family preferences, or subbed in asparagus, potatoes, or onion in their place. One Instagram user recommends subbing heavy cream in for the milk for a thicker, denser biscuit crust, but that’s entirely up to preference. “I will be making it often trying different veggie combos,” one Allrecipes member shared.

We think it’s time you find out for yourself what everybody’s raving about. Swap this recipe for your regular chicken pot pie, and you might not ever go back.
