Garlic and Herb Baked Gruyere

Gruyere is a fairly expensive cheese, so this baked Gruyere uses subtle seasonings to enhance but not overwhelm the flavor. So quick and easy to make, yet warm, comforting, and delectable. Serve hot with crostini, crackers, or any crusty bread.

Ingredients

  • 6 ounces Gruyere cheese, cut into small cubes

  • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh dill

  • 1 teaspoon ranch seasoning and salad dressing mix (such as Hidden Valley®)

  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme leaves

  • 1 clove garlic, crushed

  • olive oil cooking spray

Directions

  1. Set an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven's broiler.

  2. Place Gruyere cheese in a small cast iron skillet; sprinkle with dill, ranch seasoning, thyme, and crushed garlic. Lightly spray the top with olive oil spray.

  3. Broil until cheese begins to melt, bubble, and turn brown, about 5 minutes.

Cook's Notes:

I used a 6-inch cast iron skillet for two servings, but if you’re serving more, just double the ingredients, and use a larger skillet. The cheese will start to firm up if left at room temperature for too long, so enjoy as soon as it comes out of the oven.

Keep your eye on it, so it doesn’t burn under the broiler.
