Krista's Sticky Honey Garlic Wings

4.3
(276)

These wings with honey garlic sauce are sure to be a hit with the whole family. The homemade sauce is so much better than store-bought jarred sauce. You can fry the chicken wings, but I prefer baking for less fat. Serve with fried rice and stir-fried veggies.

Ingredients

  • 24 chicken wings, split and tips discarded

  • 3 1/4 cups water, divided

  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar

  • ¼ cup reduced-sodium soy sauce

  • 5 tablespoons honey

  • 5 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger root

  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

  2. Arrange chicken wings evenly on a baking sheet.

  3. Bake in the preheated oven until crisp, 35 to 45 minutes. Transfer wings to a baking dish and set aside.

  4. Mix together 2 1/2 cups water, brown sugar, soy sauce, honey, garlic, and ginger in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat; bring to a boil. Whisk together remaining 3/4 cup water and cornstarch in a small bowl until smooth; stir into soy sauce mixture and cook until thickened. Pour sauce over chicken wings to coat.

  5. Return wings to the oven and bake until sauce is bubbling and chicken is no longer pink at the bone and the juices run clear, 15 to 20 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).

Cook’s Note

This recipe is equally good with thighs, breasts, or skinless boneless chicken. You'd just have to adjust the cooking time.
