My sterling jewelry was tarnished. A polishing cloth didn't clean it. So I tried this recipe. Wow! Amazing, inexpensive... and it does a great job! You'll be wowed too! I have used this to clean jewelry with freshwater pearls, mother of pearl, turquoise, onyx, and amber with it, and the patina in the grooves of vintage jewelry stayed intact. Don't reuse the cleaner; make a new batch each time.

Ingredients

1 cup water
1 sheet aluminum foil
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 tablespoon dish detergent

Directions

Pour water into a microwave-safe mug or bowl. Heat in the microwave for 1 to 2 minutes.
Line the bottom of a cereal bowl with aluminum foil. Pour hot water into the bowl. Add salt, baking soda, and dish detergent; do not stir. Place jewelry on top of foil. Let soak for 5 to 10 minutes.
Rinse jewelry in cool water and dry well with a soft cloth.

Recipe Tip

This jewelry cleaner works on gold-filled, brass, German (nickel) silver, and sterling silver. It's safe for stone too.
