Berlin-based Malin Elmlid is a Swedish blogger and bread baker. A European sales manager for the premium fashion brand Levi's Vintage by trade, she launched her website The Bread Exchange in 2008 fueled by the idea that bread's universality made it the ultimate door opener to different ideas, experiences, and cultures. Elmlid shared stories about her worldwide bartering adventures along with recipes inspired by her travels in her 2016 book The Bread Exchange.
Experience
Malin Elmlid initially began making sourdough bread at home as a respite from her day job in fashion. As her interest and bread making skills grew, she had to find something to do with the loaves multiplying in her apartment. One loaf given to a friend of a friend yielded a concert ticket in return. Elmlid has since made more than 1,400 trades in over a dozen countries — for things ranging from guitar lessons to a handmade suitcase to trips to Afghanistan and California. At the heart of The Bread Exchange is the belief that not everything is for sale, without exchanging money people can be more honest and happy.
Education
Malin Elmlid studied strategy and marketing at Lund University in Sweden.
