Maison De La Luz - New Orleans

Channeling the whimsy of a Wes Anderson movie set, Maison de la Luz is a grand 67-room residence in the Warehouse District of New Orleans, ensconced in a historic space that was once an annex for City Hall. Conceived by creative studio Atelier Ace (of Ace Hotel fame) in partnership with Los Angeles–based design firm Studio Shamshiri, the hotel contains very deliberate design elements that contribute to the sense of a private sanctuary. Your room key is affixed with a weighty silk tassel; the door opens into spacious sleeping quarters with soaring ceilings, vintage and antique furniture pieces sourced from around the city, and original artworks by local artists. Trunk (House) - Tokyo

From the same team who brought the intimate, residential flourishes of the Trunk (Hotel) to Tokyo’s Shibuya district in 2017 (from $250, trunk-hotel.com) comes this new microhotel. Trunk (House) is a one-suite hotel in a traditional 1947 wooden home down a quiet backstreet in Tokyo’s Kagurazaka neighborhood. Finca Victoria - Vieques, Puerto Rico

More of a homestead than a hotel, this lush farm retreat is perched atop a hill on the island of Vieques. The property is a combination of breezy communal house, cabins, tiny homes, and a “tree house.” Owner Sylvia De Marco has an eye for boho chic in every possible good way; her incredible attention to detail turns each bedroom and common space into a homey sanctuary using a mixture of cane furniture, bright fabrics, vintage rugs, macramé, and houseplants. Juana Bautista - Tlaquepaque, Mexico

A historic 16th-century mansion is the canvas for this stately boutique hotel in the artsy city of Tlaquepaque. To create a sophisticated rendition of a local home, the team at Grupo Mitote equipped the seven suites surrounding a leafy internal courtyard almost exclusively with handicraft, furniture, and textiles made by local artisans, such as tiles fired and painted by artists near the city, wood carvings, and handblown glass lamps. Sinner - Paris

With a design aesthetic grounded in religious buildings, Sinner gives off a kind of ecclesiastical chic. French architect Tristan Auer worked with Evok Hôtels to create a space that nods to the history of the Marais in its 43 rooms (the Knights Templar are said to have had a stronghold in the Paris neighborhood).
