I Bought This Dehumidifier For My Moldy Basement, And It Removes 2+ Cups Of Water Per Day

It’s saving my leather couches from mold spores.

When putting the basement man cave together, I came across two reclining leather sofas on Facebook Marketplace for $50. They were the perfect final touch, only my partner and I never considered how much upkeep leather would require in a moist, humid basement, and soon, the surface of the sofas had developed a layer of mold. I didn’t know a ton about moldy basements, how to get rid of mold, and how to prevent it in the future, but I knew we needed a dehumidifier moving forward.

After giving the sofas a good clean and sealing them with Leather Honey Leather Cleaner, we immediately put the Ddvival 81-Ounce Dehumidifier to work. That first day of use, the 81-ounce water tank filled up quickly. What really came in handy was the device’s automatic shut-off feature; the internal light turns red and the dehumidifier powers off so it doesn’t overflow. Ever since then, I’ve seen this incredible dehumidifier (which sold 2,000 times in the past month) remove at least 2 cups of water per day from the air in my once-moldy basement. It’s my best purchase of the summer, hands-down.

Amazon shoppers have rated it in several important categories, giving it 4.7 stars in maneuverability, 4.7 stars in noise level, 4.7 stars in sleep mode, and 4.6 stars for small spaces. Able to dehumidify areas up to 1,000 square feet—with a compact size of 7.9 inches by 5.4 inches by 13.9 inches that makes it ideal for basements—this dehumidifier absorbs up to 50 ounces of excess moisture per day and has two modes: high power mode and sleep mode for working overnight. It also comes with a 1.5-meter drain hose in case you need to continuously drain water or don’t want to empty the water tank as often.

Most of all, I love its set-it-and-forget-it qualities. The auto shut-off feature is key to this convenience as it means we don’t have to worry about trekking down the stairs all the time to empty it. We check the dehumidifier periodically, dump out the excess water when we need to, and that’s it. I haven’t worried about the sofas or spotted any signs of mold ever since. In general, the basement smells better, fresher, and cleaner, and it can finally be the man cave it was intended to be.
