Trader Joe’s New Bakery Item Is So Good, Fans Are Packing Purse Forks (Again)

If you’re looking for a dessert to take to a small gathering, Trader Joe’s latest bakery item might be what you’re looking for. Or, it might be something you choose to keep to yourself because it’s that good.

The store is famous for its sweet offerings, such as Kringles, banana pudding-flavored ice cream, and tiramisu. It’s also known for stocking many of these goodies only seasonally, so there’s always a rotating array to choose from. 

Trader Joe’s offers a mini lemon sheet cake in the spring that sells out quickly. It’s so good that fans bring a "purse fork" to dig in immediately after buying it.

Now, TJ’s has a new sheet cake that has fans packing their purse forks yet again.

Trader Joe’s New Carrot Mini Sheet Cake

Unlike Costco’s Mini Cakes, which are yummy but never seem mini, Trader Joe’s mini sheet cakes look exactly like a miniature version of a regular sheet cake. They’re just over a pound of cake and frosting, and the latest version might be one of the best combos of cake and frosting ever: carrot cake and cream cheese frosting. 

TJ’s describes the cake as “festively spiced” with walnuts and “cream cheese icing ribbons” with a “tinge of tanginess.”

It sounds good to us and to many Reddit users who jumped into a thread to praise it.

“Spotted! The new carrot mini sheet cake,” the original poster wrote, adding, “They had lots of them in my store, too. And just in time to be a delicious summer dessert!”

“I really like this one! It's moist and flavorful, and not overly sweet tasting,” said one commenter. Another chimed in: “Just picked this up and I’ve never been happier that my boyfriend doesn’t like carrot cake. I pray this is a permanent item.”

A self-proclaimed "carrot cake connoisseur” dubbed it “SOO GOOOOD,” and more than one person said it’s a 10/10.

“Time for my purse fork to make a reappearance,” noted one commenter. Another responded, “The purse/car fork is a MUST if you’re a TJ’s regular.”

What's in Trader Joe's Mini Carrot Sheet Cake?

Everything about this carrot cake sounds perfect, and it doesn’t contain one specific ingredient that can turn off some carrot cake lovers.

“Does it have raisins?” several people asked. “It has zero raisins in it,” someone responded. It was exciting for those who don’t like raisins or don’t want them in their carrot cake. For others, the lack of raisins was the factor that made them say, “It’s a pass. Carrot cake is only really good with raisins.”

We’re not sure about that. If the cake is moist and tasty and the cream cheese frosting is thick and delicious, we wouldn’t let the lack of raisins keep us away. If this carrot cake is as good as everyone is raving about, we’d eat it. We’d ensure we had a car or purse fork before leaving the house because, just like Tiffani Theissen, we keep the best things from a Trader Joe’s shopping trip in the front seat for snacking on the ride home.
