Costco Sells Giant 6-Liter Bottles of Veuve Clicquot

Sure, plenty of people use Costco as their go-to grocery store, but first and foremost, it's a wholesale club — a place for buying in bulk. And if bulk Champagne is what you're after, Costco has you covered — as long as you don't mind drinking that bulk at once.

The Costco fan Instagram account Costco Empties recently noticed an item at the chain that can bring loads of holiday cheer to the Champagne drinkers in your house — if not to your pocketbook: a six-liter bottle of Veuve Clicquot. For those not up on their bottle nomenclature, this massive bottle — the equivalent of eight standard-size bottles — is known as a Methuselah, and this bubbly of biblical proportions has a fitting price tag, even at Costco: $829.99.

A little basic math reveals that, at that price, you're paying about $104 per standard bottle's worth — meaning in this case, you're actually paying extra to buy in bulk since regular bottles of Veuve usually retail for closer to $50. But hey, you get what you pay for and, in this case, you're clearly paying for the awesome bottle. Because if you were being sensible about things, you'd probably opt for a bottle that's less likely to leave you with plenty of flat Champagne the next day.

Jessica from Costco Empties said she spotted this product at a Costco in Wayne, New Jersey. Unfortunately, it's hard to tell just how many other Costco locations carry these bottles, but it's probably safe to assume that, as a novelty item with such a high price, you probably won't find them everywhere. For comparison, these same Methuselahs are also being sold by Total Wine & More at some locations across the county, but at a Total Wine in New Jersey, the price tag was $869.99 — so once again, Costco doing what they do best: undercutting the competition.

Meanwhile, if it's value you're after, back in November, Costco Empties also spotted giant three-liter bottles of Costco-brand Kirkland Signature Asolo Prosecco Superiore D.O.C.G. Sure, it's not Champagne, and the bottles are half the size, but the price tag was easier to swallow: just $29.99.
