The Big Texan Bourbon and Grapefruit Cocktail

Similar to a Greyhound but with bourbon, this cocktail features fresh grapefruit juice with a touch of extra sweetness from simple syrup, a cherry garnish, and a refreshing hint of basil.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons fresh grapefruit juice

  • 1 ½ ounces bourbon

  • 1/2 tablespoon simple syrup (see note)

  • 2 basil leaves

  • 5 ice cubes

  • 1 grapefruit slice, for garnish

  • 1 preserved cherry, for garnish

Directions

  1. In a cocktail shaker, combine the grapefruit juice, bourbon, simple syrup, and basil. Fill a chilled rocks glass with ice. Add ice to the shaker and shake well. Strain the drink into the ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish with the grapefruit slice and cherry.

Notes

Make simple syrup by bringing equal parts sugar and water to a boil, then simmering until sugar is dissolved, about 3 minutes. Let cool before using.
