At this year’s Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the Alpine Brew cocktail, served up by Monogram Luxury Appliances. Monogram is also hosting a panel at the Classic’s 40th anniversary, which will feature master sommelier Erik Siegelbaum in conversation with chef Ed Lee, as the two discuss unconventional wine and food pairings, like steak and rosé Champagne. 

The Alpine Brew is a delicious, highly caffeinated cocktail that’s sure to keep everyone going throughout the weekend’s many seminars, tastings, and parties. This is a spirit-forward drink that can be enjoyed during any time of the day. You’ll need bourbon — and before you ask, no, bourbon and whiskey are not the same — as well as coffee liqueur. If you haven’t played with coffee liqueur before, it’s a critical ingredient in a classic Espresso Martini, and can also add a bittersweet kick to a shot of espresso or even a cortado on its own. For this recipe, you’ll want to use Mr. Black, which is an Australian coffee liqueur known for its bold, unsweetened flavor. As if coffee liqueur wasn’t enough, you’ll also want to use cold brew concentrate in this cocktail to give it an extra punch of flavor — and a touch more caffeine. We used Chameleon cold brew for this recipe, but it’s also incredibly easy to make cold brew at home. Lastly, you’ll want to serve your Alpine Cold Brew over a perfectly clear ball of ice, made using the Monogram Forge Heated Ice Press. Garnish with a few coffee beans, and you’re ready to enjoy all that the Classic has to offer.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 ounces bourbon

  • 1/2 ounce coffee liqueur

  • 1/4 ounce maple syrup

  • 1 ounce cold brew

  • 2 dashes walnut bitters

  • Coffee beans (for garnish)

Directions

  1. Combine bourbon, coffee liqueur, maple syrup, cold brew, and walnut bitters in a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir until combined.

  2. Strain into a rocks glass over an ice cube. Garnish with coffee beans.
